World Bank Jobs - Preparing to write a strong CV in 6 steps

World Bank Jobs CV

Most selection processes of the World Bank Group require candidates to upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) onto an online platform. The selection team will use this document to gain an initial impression of the candidate’s competences, professional experience and academic qualifications, and to evaluate the suitability of their profile according to what is required for the position and organization. Therefore, constructing a good CV is essential, in order to maximize your chances of success in this competitive selection process and to stand out from the other candidates.

The expression “Curriculum Vitae” comes from Latin and means “the course of life”, in reference to a complete bibliographical description of an individual’s educational and professional background with the candidate’s full job and academic history (including relevant internships and voluntary work), as well as information about their language knowledge, competences, publications, awards, honors and scholarships, among others.

In this article, we will present 6 steps to craft a strong World Bank Jobs CV so as to increase your chances of passing the first stage of the selection process! This article is just a small sample of all the information covered by our comprehensive eBook – The World Bank Group Jobs and Careers. Writing a curriculum can be more complex than first appears. The preparation process requires the candidate’s time and dedication. Therefore, planning ahead is essential in order to increase your chances of preparing an effective curriculum, which supports a candidate’s selection. We recommend the following simplified steps when preparing to write your World Bank Jobs CV:

  1. Explore all the job opening information. Understand the program’s objectives and desired professional competences.
  2. Study the organization’s profile: its mission, vision, values, form of operation and main activities. This will help you to gain a more holistic view of what they expect from a candidate, enabling you to incorporate elements important to the organization in your curriculum.
  3. At this point, reflect on and write down in detail the reasons for applying for this selection process and how your academic and professional profile fits with what this international organization is looking for. This reflection will be extremely important for you in preparing your curriculum in a way that is more suited to the program’s intentions;
  4. Check if there is a specific model of CV that an organization requires for the selection process. If there is, look for all the information on the format the program requests and base the curriculum structure on these requirements.
  5. Draw up a thorough list of all of your professional and academic experience during your life. Do this in parts; start with academic, followed by professional experience and, lastly, extra-curricular activities.
  6. From this list, select or highlight all the experience on your curriculum, which gives you the best possible fit for the profile the program is seeking;

Do not forget that your curriculum is only one document among many others that the organization might require. Therefore, it is essential that it is in line with the others and that, together, they are able to tell your story coherently.
