What is Goal 9 of the SDGs?
The ninth goal of the SDGs is aimed at building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, as well as fostering innovation. By this goal, there is an encouragement of the creation of growth in these areas founded upon the three pillars of sustainable development.
What is the importance of the industry, innovation and infrastructure SDG?
Economic growth, social development and policies to mitigate the causes and effects of climate change depend largely on investment in infrastructure, sustainable industrial development and technological advances. Despite that, fundamental infrastructures, such as roads, information and communication technologies, sanitation, electricity and water are scarce in many developing countries.
Hence, progress can only be achieved with advancements in technology, requiring the promotion of sustainable industries and investment in scientific innovation. The existence of roads in optimal condition, reliable electricity for everyone, good sea and air connections, as well as a universal Internet connection, are measures recommended by the United Nations to fix this situation.
